Craniopharyngioma Surgery

What is Craniopharyngioma Surgery?

Craniopharyngioma is a type of central nervous system tumor, which means that it is in the brain or spinal cord.  A craniopharyngioma is considered a benign tumor, which means it is unlikely to spread and usually slow-growing.

Surgery and radiosurgery are treatments for craniopharyngioma, performed by a neurosurgeon.

In surgery, the goal is to remove as much of the tumor as possible after confirming the diagnosis. If the craniopharyngioma was only partially removed through surgery, radiation therapy may be recommended.

Radiosurgery provides a non-invasive procedure for the patient.  For more on radiosurgery treatment, see the Radiosurgery page.
