One in 3,000 individuals is affected by neurofibromatosis, a genetic disorder that causes the growth of benign tumors in nerve tissue throughout the body. Most often, it is children who are diagnosed with neurofibromatosis and who will deal with the growth of tumors and the symptoms they cause for their entire lives. The Children’s Tumor Foundation has designated May 17th as Neurofibromatosis Awareness Day.
